James Mooney is a self taught photographer who is truly obsessed with photography. Inspired by Bruce Gilden, Mary Ellen Mark, Bruce Davidson, he is the proud owner of a vast collection of hard back photo books which he considers his most treasured possessions. James is never not seen without a camera around his neck when out walking the streets and now armed with his iphone, James has another format to capture unforgettable images.

He focuses on street photography, capturing the people and reality of street /youth culture, underground sub cultures and on a lighter note for some, unassuming moments of daily life.

James’ inherent passion for justice and his strong social conscience drives his photography to convey and portray the humanity of people; compelling the viewer to rethink their judgments about groups of people who are often portrayed negatively.

With an incredible gift of meeting, befriending, gaining the trust of strangers and photographing them, the results are images that are powerful, honest, natural and often spontaneous.

James work has been seen on the cover of a Bruno Mars CD cover and has had solo photographic exhibitions in New York and London. His photographs will be seen this spring in a group show Artillery Contemporary Art influenced by weaponry at the Mesa Contemporary Arts Museum in Arizona. His work has been published in Dazed & Confused, i-D and Vogue to name a few.

James’ grew up in inner city Dublin and has lived in London, Paris and New York - all cities that have inspired him to see that despite a bustling urban environment, there are real people with real stories and real lives who should be seen, heard and respected.

James’ assumes the POINTSHOOTTHINK handle which sums him up in 3 words.
